You can also give the gift of experience with a Strathmore membership. It’s easy, and we send it for you! Before checking out, be sure to check the gift membership box on the online form.

Make a Gift of Stock*

Making a gift of stock may be especially attractive to you under the current tax laws.

A gift of appreciated stock to Strathmore can benefit you in two ways: you receive a charitable income tax deduction for the full fair market value of the securities, and at the same time you may avoid capital gains taxes on appreciated stock. This helps stretch your gift even further.

Download the instruction sheet (PDF).

Give Through an IRA Charitable Rollover*

Individuals who are 70½ or older can make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) directly from their IRA to a qualifying public charity.

How does it work?

An IRA owner can make up to $100,000 in charitable gifts to 501(c)(3) organizations such as Strathmore without having to pay income taxes on the distribution. This law no longer has an expiration date, so you are free to make annual gifts this year and in the future.

What do you receive in return?

You will make an immediate impact on the arts in your community and receive a tax benefit even if you take the standard deduction. This allows you to make a gift from your most highly taxed asset without impacting your current spending.

And, your gift may go towards all or part of your minimum distribution requirement (RMD).

How do I get started?

Contact your IRA provider to make your gift. You may need to provide them with our Tax ID number, which is 52-1233092.

Make sure to contact us at 301.581.5145 when you make your gift as some IRA providers do not list the donor’s name along with the check. Checks should be made payable to Strathmore Hall Foundation.

Please note: With the new SECURE Act, RMDs now begin at age 72 for those who turn 70½ on or after January 1, 2020.

Give Through a Donor Advised Fund*

A donor-advised fund (DAF), which is like a charitable savings account, gives you the flexibility to recommend how much and how often money is granted to Strathmore and other charities.

How does it work?

You can establish your DAF by making an irrevocable, tax deductible donation to a community foundation or financial services company that sponsors a DAF program. From there, you recommend grants to the charities you support.

What do you receive in return?

You qualify for a federal income tax charitable deduction at the time you contribute to the account. You also have the power to make recommendations on which charities to support whenever you want allowing you to centralize your giving and record-keeping in one location.

Please note, if you chose to apply your DAF to membership, all tangible benefits would be waived to ensure the gift fully tax-deductible. The IRS has ruled that the costs cannot be separated, meaning the value of benefits cannot be paid for with a personal check. They call this practice bifurcation. You can receive incidental benefits such as presale access, Comcast Circles Lounge access, concierge services, and more. Please consult your grant administrator with any benefit questions.

Give Through Your Employer

Your gift to Strathmore may be doubled or even tripled.

Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match tax-deductible charitable contributions made by their employees. Some companies match gifts made by retirees and/or spouses.

If your company provides matching gifts, here are two ways to submit your application:

  1. Request a matching gift form from your employer and mail or email the completed and signed form to:

Strathmore Hall Foundation
Attn: Development
5301 Tuckerman Lane
N. Bethesda, MD 20852

  1. If your company uses a matching gift platform, submit your request through the portal by selecting Strathmore Hall Foundation or by entering our EIN (52- 1233092). We will verify the gift amount once your application is received.

If you have any questions, please contact donors@strathmore.org or 301-581-5145.

Make an Honorary Gift

A donation in memory or in honor of a family member, friend, or colleague is a caring way to celebrate a special occasion or honor a life. Commemorative gifts of any amount can be designated toward existing Strathmore programs— often one that would be meaningful to the honored or memorialized individual. These gifts can be made online here or by calling 301.581.5145.

Or, by dedicating a seat in the Music Center at Strathmore, you will create a visible and lasting legacy for your loved one while supporting a cause they are passionate about. A special note will be sent to your honoree and/or their family. Download a Name a Seat Form.

  2. Create a fundraiser on Facebook and share it with your friends.

“For my milestone birthday, my family gave me the best birthday present I could have asked for—a donation to Strathmore’s Artist in Residence (AIR) program, the next generation of music superstars. Wait until you experience how inspiring it feels to honor a cause so close to your heart. If you haven’t seen a performance, I can ensure you that an AIR ticket is the best value in town.” – Arthur Lazerow
