Hailed as a phenomenal harp player with unparalleled purity, Maeve Gilchrist has revolutionized the Celtic harp by stretching its harmonic limits and improvisational possibilities. Born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland, and now based in Brooklyn, New York, Gilchrist‘s innovative approach to her instrument transcends genres. She is equally at home performing as a soloist with renowned orchestras as she is playing with traditional Irish folk groups or exploring electronic augmentation.
As a bandleader and composer, Gilchrist tours internationally and has performed at Tanglewood Jazz Festival, the World Harp Congress, and the historic opening of the Scottish Parliament. She has shared the stage with Yo-Yo Ma, Esperanza Spalding, and Tony Trishka, among others, and has collaborated with inventive artists such as the Silkroad Ensemble, Arooj Aftab’s Vulture Prince Ensemble, and the progressive folk-quartet DuoDuo. Gilchrest has released five albums, including 2020’s critically acclaimed The Harpweaver.
