Virtual Teen Art Camp
Mon–Fri, July 27–31, 2020
For students entering grades 7–10
Led by Rosana Azar of Creative Adventures
Join Strathmore for Virtual Art Camp this summer! Campers will work with seasoned instructors Rosana Azar, Ron Kohler, and Leela Payne through live Zoom classes twice each day, with time in between to develop their work.
10–11:30am on Zoom: Morning sessions focus on demonstrations and daily challenges for campers.
11:30am–2pm: Participants develop their work independently.
2–3:30pm on Zoom: Campers reassemble to share their work with the group and receive input from instructors.
On Friday afternoon, families will be invited to join to celebrate and enjoy the students’ work.
The instructors will also provide supplemental video lessons for campers to watch outside of class times to help tailor the art camp experience based on their interests and availability.
Miniature Models, Storytelling, and Stop-Motion
Students will create a miniature art installation using scale model figures and objects from home and/or the natural environment, then create stop-motion videos using their models. During this project, they will explore and discuss artists who used photography to capture miniature creations; investigate a variety of techniques for creating stop-motion animation; and learn ideation and storytelling to create characters, a setting, and a storyboard. Students will also document the creation process, present ideas and exchange feedback, and create an artist statement.
Fine Art Techniques
Throughout the week, students will learn and develop fine art techniques to support their work. This includes using a viewfinder to create compositions, creating small paintings to learn and practice watercolor techniques, and improving their use of value with an ebony pencil and gum eraser.
Using recyclable materials, students will create fashion statements that serve as reminders about social distance protocols.
Campers will be provided a carefully selected box of high-quality art supplies available for pickup from the Mansion at Strathmore on the Thursday and Friday before camp, July 23 and 24. Families will be asked to provide common household items such as cardboard and scissors. A glue gun would be helpful, but is not required.
If you live outside the Strathmore area and are registering for our Virtual Art Camp, please contact email@example.com to arrange for your supplies.
