Backstage with the Creators of Serial:
with Sarah Koenig & Julie Snyder
In 2014, Serial became the most popular podcast in the history of the form with its investigation of a 1999 Baltimore murder case. Following the success of the 1st season, a 2nd exploring the case of soldier Bowe Bergdahl’s desertion and its aftermath aired in the winter of 2015. This year they launched a spin-off, S-Town, that explores a strange case of murder in a small Alabama town. Now Serial fans can experience the podcast in a whole new iteration, as co-creators Sarah Koenig and Julie Snyder take live audiences behind the scenes to explain and illuminate this new form of modern storytelling.
- Serial won the 2014 Peabody Award—the first time the award has been given to a podcast.
- Editor/producer Julie Snyder and host/reporter Sarah Koenig got the idea for Serial while working on National Public Radio’s This American Life with host Ira Glass.
- Conversational as it may sound, Koenig says every word of each Serial podcast is scripted—and she has more details to share with live audiences.
