Live from the Mansion

Live from the Mansion is a virtual concert series that brings inspiring music and insightful conversation together in the Mansion at Strathmore. Each week, host Christylez Bacon joins us for live performances in a variety of genres and helps us get to know some of the best artists from the DC area—all from Strathmore’s renowned Artist in Residence program. Tune into Strathmore’s Facebook page Wednesdays at 7:30pm to catch the premiere of each episode.

Strathmore’s Virtual Programming is supported by AARP Maryland.

If you do not have a Facebook account, you can still view the Live from the Mansion performances. When they go live on Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm, you will see a live video on Facebook here, no login required. We suggest clicking on this link a few minutes before 7:30pm and refreshing the page so you can join us when the performance starts at 7:30pm. You can also find past performances and other content on our YouTube channel

With a mission towards cultural acceptance and unification through music, Bacon is constantly pushing the envelope: whether it be with Beatbox Remix, the cross-cultural collaborative music video series he founded featuring guest artists from diverse musical genres, or his education performances for young people.

Debórah Bond & Trey Sorrells
Wed, July 15, 7:30pm

Vocalist Debórah Bond cites Chaka Khan, Anita Baker, Luther Vandross, and Sade for shaping her vocal sound. For this special performance, Bond’s unique vocal tone and expression is paired with the sweet sounds of Trey Sorrells on the keys. By integrating aspects of hard-bop style jazz popularized by musicians like Cannonball Adderley and Miles Davis with the soulful melodies of gospel, Sorrells creates an original sound resembling a mix of R&B, funk, and hip-hop.

Brad Kolodner
Wed, July 22, 7:30pm

Brad Kolodner, of the acclaimed bluegrass group Charm City Junction, treats us to an upbeat set of traditional roots music. Accompanied by bassist Alex Lacquement, Kolodner’s music is a sonic through line that traces the history and origins of roots music to the current and rising generation of bluegrass musicians.

Elijah Jamal Balbed, Isabelle De Leon & Mark G. Meadows
Wed, July 29, 7:30pm

Get into the groove! Saxophonist Elijah Jamal Balbed, known for his JoGo Project which melds jazz and DC’s homegrown go-go music, and versatile, fierce female drummer Isabelle De Leon regularly collaborate to host Southwest Soul Sessions at the Wharf’s Pearl Street Warehouse, a concert series that combines the diverse musical heritage of our region. Master of the keys, Mark G. Meadows rounds out the trio with his soulful piano for a set that is sure to make you move.

Josanne Francis and Chao Tian
Wed, Aug 5, 7:30pm

Josanne Francis and Chao Tian first met as members of Strathmore’s Artist in Residence Class of 2018, and we are still reeling from their debut duet. Francis’ tropical steelpan elegantly punctuates the bold, ethereal lilt of Tian’s Chinese dulcimer creating a transcendent soundscape. Get lost in a flurry of pansticks and mallets and witness a transglobal collaboration that’s out of this world.

Bumper Jacksons Duo
Wed, Aug 12, 7:30pm

Jess Eliot Myhre and Chris Ousley are the wranglers of the Bumper Jacksons, an American roots project pushing the sonic boundaries of country two steps and traditional jazz. Like an old-time square dance in the middle of New Orleans, they pull together a vast array of early American traditions into an uplifting sound that strikes you right in the heart and gets your feet jumping.

Wed, Aug 19, 7:30pm

A powerhouse vocalist and sensitive songwriter, Cecily’s impassioned live performances and vocal style have been compared to Brandy and Corinne Bailey Rae but she has a depth all her own. Accompanied by Drew Kid on the keys, Cecily treats us to an evening of vintage-tinged soul, jazz, and R&B tunes.

Christylez Bacon & Nistha Raj

This collaboration with violinist Nistha Raj offers a contemporary take on classical Hindustani music. Together, this adventurous duo creates something totally fresh.
