Timeless Armenian Classics: Komitas at 150

Komitas (born in 1869) is rightfully considered the father of Armenian national school of music. He collected and transcribed over 3,000 pieces of folk music and was revered by his contemporaries, including by composers Clade Debussy and Camile Saint-Saens, before his tragic death in Paris in 1935. His legacy and influence over generations of Armenian composers is unparalleled. Join us for an evening of music of Komitas, Khachaturyan, and other Armenian composers performed by Armine Grigoryan, one of Armenia’s most accomplished pianists. As a soloist and chamber musician, she performed around the globe, from Australia and Japan to Canada and Mexico, and in between. She received numerous international awards including during the “Roma 2003” and “Frederic Chopin” Association’s competitions. Armine Grigoryan is a Professor at the Yerevan State Conservatory and the director of Aram Khachaturian Museum in Yerevan. She will be joined by a young award-winning pianist Sona Barseghyan.

This concert is not presented by Strathmore.
