Mon–Fri, Aug 10–14, 2020
For students entering grades 1–6
Led by Rosana Azar of Creative Adventures

Join Strathmore for Virtual Art Camp this summer! Campers will work with seasoned instructors Rosana Azar, Ron Kohler, and Leela Payne through live Zoom classes twice each day, with time in between to develop their work.

Please Note: Registration closes at 9am on the Friday before camp starts

Schedule
10–11:30am on Zoom: Morning sessions focus on demonstrations and daily challenges for campers.
11:30am–2pm: Participants develop their work independently.
2–3:30pm on Zoom: Campers reassemble to share their work with the group and receive input from instructors.

On Friday afternoon, families will be invited to join to celebrate and enjoy the students’ work.

The instructors will also provide supplemental video lessons for campers to watch outside of class times to help tailor the art camp experience based on their interests and availability.

Projects
Art Installation
Students will create an imaginative art installation. They will use recycled materials and objects from their home or the natural environment to create a tableau (setting), and will use their toys to model a character of their own creation. Students will have opportunities to exchange feedback with their peers and consult with teachers. Installations will be documented through photography and students will reflect on the process with an artist statement.

Watercolor Techniques
Students will learn and practice a variety of watercolor techniques. They will create a large watercolor painting to reflect ideas inspired by their art installation using their newfound techniques.

Fashion Accessories
Using recyclable materials, students will create fashion statements that serve as reminders about social distance protocols.

Materials
Campers will be provided a carefully selected box of high-quality art supplies available for pickup from the Mansion at Strathmore on the Thursday and Friday before camp, July 30 and 31 for Kids Art Camp Session 1 and August 6 and 7 for Kids Art Camp Session 2. Families will be asked to provide common household items such as cardboard and scissors. A glue gun would be helpful, but is not required.

If you live outside the Strathmore area and are registering for our Virtual Art Camp, please contact education@strathmore.org to arrange for your supplies.

Cancellation Policy
6 or more weeks ahead: full refund minus $25 cancellation fee
4-5 weeks ahead: 50% refund
2–3 weeks ahead: 25% refund

Scholarships
Strathmore aims to make education experiences like Art Camp as financially accessible as possible, and we are able to offer a limited number of partial tuition scholarships. Please note that because our goal is to provide partial assistance to as many people as possible, we almost always provide partial scholarships rather than full. To apply, please send an email explaining your family’s need for assistance, your child’s interest in the program, and your requested support amount to education@strathmore.org.

Can I sign my child up for both weeks?
Both weeks of Kids Art Camp are identical. You are welcome to sign your child up for both weeks, as long as you don’t mind that they will be repeating the same art projects the second week.
