Ashley Bathgate, cello
Bach Unwound

Ashley Bathgate has been described as an “eloquent new music interpreter” (The New York Times) and “a glorious cellist” (The Washington Post) who combines “bittersweet lyricism along with ferocious chops” (New York Magazine). Bach Unwound features the performance of a six-movement suite for solo cello based on movements from Bach’s original cello suites, commissioned by Bathgate and written by composer-collective Sleeping Giant.

You are invited to stay after the show for a post-concert discussion between Bathgate and Angel Gil-Ordóñez, the conductor and Music Director of PostClassical Ensemble.

  • In addition to her solo work, Bathgate is a member of the internationally acclaimed sextet Bang on a Can All-Stars, the chamber music group HOWL, the duo TwoSense with pianist Lisa Moore, and percussive quintet Bonjour.
  • Bathgate was the unprecedented two-time winner of the Lois Lyman Concerto Competition, performing the Saint-Saens and Schumann Cello Concertos with the orchestra at Troy Savings Bank Music Hall.
