CityDance Ensemble Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras interPLAY
The addition of interPLAYcompany to our family of education programs affirms Strathmore’s commitment to accessibility and arts for all. This twenty-two year-old, award-winning non-profit organization features more than 65 adult musicians with and without cognitive/physical disabilities. Founding artistic director and principal conductor Paula R. Moore with Associate Conductor Paul Bangser lead this ground-breaking band in weekly rehearsals to learn music from all genres—Bach to Basie, as well as original scores by members of the Montgomery County Composer’s Society and other composers—for its year-round concert schedule. interPLAYcompany has won Discovery’s Arts in Community Award, and Ms. Moore has won the Advocate of the Year Award for the ARC of Montgomery County and the 1998 Washingtonian of the Year Award. In addition to those orchestra members with cognitive/physical disabilities who play professional percussion and tonal instruments, traditional musicians often renowned in their fields, participate in both practice and performance, as well as “Bandaides,” senior high school and college mentors.
