Using his own augmented instrument as a template, pianist James Fernando will guide attendees through an essential part of the creative process—challenging their mediums. This workshop will help participants unlock their own fresh ideas by showing them how to identify restrictive thought patterns and break free of their constraints.

Since storming onto the jazz scene with her smoky vocals, blistering trumpet, and compelling compositions, Bria Skonberg, the Juno Award winner, has played with U2, the Dave Matthews Band, Jon Batiste, and sang the National Anthem at Madison Square Garden. Her latest album, Nothing Never Happens, offers striking originals and creative covers of Queen, The Beatles, Duke Ellington, and more.

With over 30 million albums sold worldwide, Brian McKnight’s chart-topping hits include “Back to One,” “6, 8, 12,” “Anytime,” and many more. In addition to winning numerous industry awards, McKnight is also a producer and multi-instrumentalist who plays nine instruments including piano, guitar, bass, drums, percussions, trombone, tuba, flugelhorn, and trumpet.

VIRTUAL CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOPS: Presented by Community Building Art Works in Partnership with Strathmore

Monthly on Thursdays at 7pm

Led by author Seema Reza and accomplished guest writers—including poets, memoirists, novelists, and storytellers—these community workshops follow the model developed by Community Building Art Works (CBAW) over the course of a decade of bringing people together in military and hospital settings. Each workshop is designed to help participants put their personal stories on paper in a supportive environment.
