The Ives Project
Charles Ives is regarded by many as one of America’s greatest composers along with Aaron Copland and George Gershwin. In this fascinating weekend, Strathmore brings back the creative forces behind our “Stravinsky Project” to explore the music of Ives, the quintessential New Englander. The story of Ives will be told through his music, readings, lecture/performances and rare recordings shining a light on this iconic American composer’s work.

Discover Ellington
Edward “Duke” Ellington wrote over 1,000 compositions and changed the face of American music. A prominent figure in the history of jazz, Ellington was a native son of Washington D.C., who returned again and again to the city of his birth to perform and create. Ellington’s music erased boundaries, embracing blues, gospel, film scores, popular and classical music. Strathmore heralds the incomparable artistry of Duke Ellington.

Baltimore Symphony at Strathmore

Baltimore Symphony at StrathmoreThe 2011-2012 Season celebrates outstanding women. January 2012 will be the 600th anniversary of the birth of Joan of Arc and provides a unique opportunity to celebrate her iconic place in history. Our season will feature both an oratorio and a silent film based on her life and trial, plus other works inspired by great women in history such as Harriet Tubman.

This season we also continue our commitment to multimedia projects, which is demonstrated in photographer Frans Lanting and Philip Glass’ LIFE: A Journey Through Time. We also welcome guest artists such as gifted pianist Lise de la Salle to violinist Arabella Steinbacher, both making their BSO debuts, to Baltimore’s own Leon Fleisher as well as superstars André Watts and Itzhak Perlman.
