Song of the Earth: Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day Presented by Strathmore Friday, April 23, 2010 at 8:00 PM Music Center at Strathmore

Malcolm Dalglish’s spectacular “Song of the Earth” evokes the bounties of nature, soaring from Celtic melodies to rousing Appalachian fiddle tunes and riveting Balkan harmonies, filling the stage with an exciting array of musicians, dancers and a splendid chorus. Don't miss the world premiere of Dalglish’s musical setting of Wendell Berry’s poem “Violets” in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day.

Featured performers include Malcolm Dalglish on hammer dulcimer, Moira Smiley and VOCO (cello, banjo and vocals), N. Scott Robinson on frame drums and percussion, Joshua Stephen Kartes on piano, Andrea Hoag on fiddle, Rowan Corbett on bones, piper Andrew Donlon, Irish step dancers from the Culkin School, percussive dancers Matt Olwell and Emily Oleson, Shizumi and the Kodomo Dance Troupe, InToneNation A Cappella and ASL interpreter/performance artist Rachel Schlafer-Parton. Gisele Becker will be directing the George Washington University Singers and the Carpe Diem Community Choir formed just for the occasion!
