(NORTH BETHESDA, MD)—This fall, Strathmore presents unique opportunities for the entire family to experience the arts as well as explore work about the natural world by artists who honor and advocate for the earth. Performances include song and dance from South Africa and Brazil to New York and DC.

Maestro Marin Alsop returns to The Music Center with the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra to kick off a multi-year examination of the environment through artistic expression, passion for nature, and nuances of the climate crisis and support for change at Strathmore. The performance pays tribute to the environmental significance of the Amazonian landscape.

“So many artists have a reverence and love for nature. This exploration delves into works for the stage that are both exemplary in their artistry and highlight the human relationship to the natural world,” said Joi Brown, Strathmore’s artistic director and vice president of programming. “Experiencing the artist’s perspective presents an opportunity for attendees to contemplate their own role within the world and environment.”

The spring nature series features composer, teacher and drummer Allison Miller’s In Our Veins: Rivers And Social Change and singer/songwriter Angelique Kidjo performs from her project Mother Nature.

Other highlights of the fall season include the iconic Sergio Mendes, flamenco master Farruquito and the incomparable Dorrance Dance Company. To close out 2022, the Soweto Gospel Choir and Hip-Hop Nutcracker with Guest MC Kurtis Blow will take to the Music Center stage and prepare us for the festive holiday season by performing some our most treasured freedom songs and reimagining one of the world’s favorite theatric traditions.
