Born in Washington, DC and raised in North Carolina, Christie Dashiell is a Grammy-nominated vocalist, composer, and educator known for her dynamic blend of jazz, R&B, gospel, and soul. Daughter of acclaimed jazz bassist Carroll Dashiell, Jr., Dashiell grew up surrounded by music, eventually honing her craft at Howard University and the Manhattan School of Music. As a member of Howard’s Afro-Blue vocal jazz ensemble, she performed nationally on NBC’s The Sing-Off. A 2014 Strathmore Artist in Residence (AIR), Dashiell found an early creative home that helped shape her identity as a solo artist.
Dashiell’s latest project, Journey In Black, hailed by DownBeat Magazine as a “masterpiece,” was nominated for a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album. Blending improvisation with the layered traditions of Black American music, the album explores themes of legacy, joy, grief, and liberation through original compositions.
