Biriba Union Members Holding Their Instruments And Smiling On A Rooftop

Named after a Brazilian wild sugar apple, Biribá Union features Grammy-winning cellist Mike Block, Grammy-nominated rapper, multi-instrumentalist, and former Strathmore Artist in Residence Christylez Bacon, and electric bassist Patricia Ligia. The trio draws from the freestyle theatrics of hip-hop and go-go, the beauty of Brazilian forró and choro, the earthiness of American roots music, and the spontaneity of jazz.

Mike Block is known for his cross-cultural collaborations, inspiring communities worldwide with his cello, voice, and original compositions. Christylez Bacon brings an electrifying blend of rhymes, guitar, and beatbox, described by The Washington Post “where hope meets hip-hop.” Patricia Ligia, a dynamic bassist from Uruguay, tours internationally with pop star Karol G and has appeared on Saturday Night Live, NPR’s Tiny Desk, and more.

Together, Biribá Union embodies cultural acceptance and unification through music, delivering an infectious groove in a performance that defies genre boundaries and pushes the envelope for musical collaboration.
