For its annual gala concert, and the 150th anniversary of Gustav Holst’s birth, the Marine Band pulls out all the stops for a performance of his monolithic masterpiece The Planets.

During the substantial, seven-movement work, listeners will be enamored with Holst’s ability to capture the spirit and grandeur of our planetary neighbors, including Mars, Bringer of War and Jupiter, and Bringer of Jollity, while featuring images of space captured by the James Webb Space Telescope and an introduction by the Administrator of NASA. The Marine Band is also honored to perform under the baton of H. Robert Reynolds, a true luminary with an indelible impact in the wind band world. Reynolds will lead the band in a cornerstone of wind band repertoire, Paul Hindemith’s Symphony in B-flat for Band, as well as his own masterful transcription of Morten Lauridsen’s work “O Magnum Mysterium.”
