Singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist Alice Gerrard has dedicated the past 6 decades to immersing herself in the world of traditional music. During the 1960s and 1970s, the award-winning guitar, fiddle, and banjo player collaborated with Appalachian singer Hazel Dickens. The duo influenced a generation of young female singers, including Emmylou Harris, Laurie Lewis, and The Judds. Gerrard's solo career—showcasing her compelling songwriting, hard-edged vocals, and instrumental mastery—has been equally impressive, with albums that have earned acclaim in publications like Billboard, Country Music, Bluegrass Unlimited, and the Old-Time Herald. Her latest album of mostly original songs, Sun to Sun, was released in 2023 to glowing reviews.
