CityDance is a non-profit dance institution dedicated to developing the next generation of dance artists and innovators. With a mission to transform lives and communities through dance, CityDance trains young dancers for professional careers; nurtures talent and achievement through dance; and works to advance the field of professional dance in the national capital region.
CityDance School & Conservatory opened in 2005 an education partner of the Music Center at Strathmore. Founded by Artistic Director Lorraine Spiegler, CityDance School and Conservatory provides high-quality dance training to beginner to pre-professional students ages 3 to 19. The School offers a well-rounded curriculum of Vaganova ballet training and contemporary dance techniques rounded out by jazz, hip-hop, and world dance forms taught by world-renowned faculty.
Its pre-professional program, CityDance Conservatory, prepares young dancers for professional careers. The Conservatory provides dance training in ballet, contemporary, and world dance forms; personalized coaching; guest artist residencies; master classes; summer intensives with professional companies and artists; and professional performance opportunities for its highest-level students. Graduates of the Conservatory program perform with professional companies around the world.
The CityDance DREAM School is a small and selective full-scholarship, pre-professional dance school that prioritizes students of color living in Washington, DC. Offering an integrated dance and academic program, students develop into skilled dance artists prepared to lead and innovate. Through CityDance Presents, the organization brings acclaimed professional companies to DC venues and supports emerging artists to develop new work.
