Strathmore is a multidimensional creative anchor in the community, where everyone can connect with the arts and artists can explore their full potential. We present nearly 400 performances, exhibitions, and education programs annually for diverse audiences on our Montgomery County Maryland campus and throughout the community.

House Manager Mansion
The Mansion at Strathmore is home to intimate artistic programs presented by Strathmore in the 100-seat Dorothy M. and Maurice C. Shapiro Music Room, the Gudelsky Gallery Suite, the outdoor Gudelsky Concert Pavilion, and Sculpture gardens. The Mansion at Strathmore also serves as a location for a variety of private events, including weddings, receptions, corporate meetings and retreats, recitals, memorial services, and other social events.
Mansion House Managers work independently to manage a seamless experience for the Mansion private event clients, guests and vendors. Mansion House Managers help prepare the Mansion for events in addition to assisting with and overseeing post-event breakdown and clean-up. They serve as independent leaders and often may be the sole representation of Strathmore for the duration of an event. Mansion House Managers may also be called upon to staff in-house events in lieu of full-time staff.
POSITION SUMMARY WORK SCHEDULE
Mansion House Managers work a varied schedule of weekdays and evenings, and weekends hours, solely dictated by the event schedule. Schedules are produced monthly and do not exceed an average of 20 hours/week. All shifts are for 4 hours at minimum. Overtime is paid on holidays and for time worked after midnight.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF THE POSITION'S RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Mansion House Managers are often the sole Strathmore representative responsible for successful execution of private and in-house events and the protection of the Strathmore/County physical assets. They command a wealth of knowledge in both general Strathmore and Mansion specific protocols and procedures.
- They serve as the “Face of Strathmore,” representing the organization with the utmost level of excellent customer service and hospitality when interacting with patrons and clients.
- Act as information distributors and greeters and provide a security element in the venue.
- Provide guests with directions, instructions, and assistance as needed including issues of ADA accessibility.
- Are fully versed in securing the Mansion following events and responsible for arming and disarming the system.
- Convey and enforce Mansion rules and contract requirements to clients and vendors.
- Convey and enforce procedures in emergency situations, including swift contact for support and to apprise senior management of situation. File incident reports as needed.
- They serve as day-of on-site coordinator for issues related to the physical space, executed contract, and outside vendors (for example, DJ, Photographer, Florist)
- Work closely and efficiently with Private Events teams, catering staff and vendors to ensure a safe and service-oriented environment.
- Work closely with the caterer or banquet captain to ensure the client’s event is a success
- Operate and troubleshoot in-house A/V equipment (the sound system for playlist music, and the podium and mic for spoken presentations).
- Assist patrons with accessibility requests and accommodation needs in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Strathmore’s standards of service.
- Adhere to Strathmore’s inclusion, diversity, equity and access principles while serving the public and working with colleagues.

Satisfactory completion of this job will be demonstrated by exhibiting excellent attention to detail, demonstration of broad range of institutional knowledge, anticipating event needs, exercising sound professional judgment, building and maintaining good working relationships with staff, clients, and vendors, keeping excellent records, and ensuring that customers and guests alike will leave Strathmore with wonderful memories of our institution and its staff.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
- Applicants should possess strong communication and decision-making skills.
- Mansion House Managers must have schedule flexibility.
- Previous event management experience preferred.
- Mansion House Managers are empowered to make decisions on behalf of the organization and expected to react confidently and thoughtfully to situations as they arise during an event as the on-site person in charge.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds and stand on your feet for at least four hours at a time.
- The applicant should have an adaptable nature and be able to think quickly on his/her feet.
- The applicant should also have strong teamwork and multitasking skills to coordinate event setup and takedown in an orderly manner while enforcing catering and vendor guidelines as the need arises.
- Mansion House Managers are empowered to make decisions both in reaction to issues as they arise and in accordance with Strathmore policies and procedures.
- Must be comfortable operating basic A/V equipment and lighting within the venue.
- Strong customer service skills are required.
- CPR and first aid training is preferred.

Your Role:
As the Director of Individual Giving, you will play a crucial role in advancing Strathmore's mission and values by serving as a strategic and mission-driven frontline fundraiser. Reporting to and partnering closely with the Vice President of Advancement, you will spearhead the growth of contributed revenue opportunities from individual donors and family foundations.
With an emphasis on cultivating and deepening relationships with existing and prospective donors capable of 5-6-figure gifts, you will help build our capacity to nurture, support, and celebrate the arts right here where we live.
Relationship Builder
- Manage a portfolio of individual donors, family foundations, and prospects of meaningful capacity by utilizing fundraising best practices—with a heavy focus on face-to-face solicitations—to help Strathmore achieve short and long-term fundraising goals.
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for this portfolio by creating a personalized cultivation plan and individualized goals and strategies for each donor/prospect that is driven by the intersection of the donor’s passions and interests and programmatic priorities and needs of Strathmore.
- Grow individual donor base by identifying, qualifying, cultivating, and soliciting new prospects, moving them through the pipeline in an intentional and systematic way.
- Analyze and predict portfolio’s propensity, capacity, and enthusiasm to give.
- Prepare and review donor briefs, contact reports, acknowledgement and solicitation letters, gift proposals, and other communications materials for potential prospects and donors.
- Partner with the Donor Engagement team to provide exceptional stewardship, including recognition, invitation lists, and reporting on a gift’s impact.
- Record and update interactions in Tessitura, Strathmore’s CRM, including actions and notes, proposals, and other pertinent information, in a timely manner.
- Represent and support Strathmore in person, as necessary, at events, meetings, and other activities.
Collaborator
- Work closely with the President and CEO and Vice President of Advancement to support their cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts by creating donor profiles, briefing materials, and talking points, leveraging their leadership in giving strategies, and regularly sharing progress updates.
- Facilitate conversations with colleagues to identify programs and initiatives that require funding or may be of interest to potential prospects.
- Connect with colleagues to secure relevant project information, including budgets, to create proposals.
- Coordinate with the Individual Giving Manager on direct response strategies as relates to mid-level giving.
- Partner with the Director of Donor Engagement on major gift strategies and pipeline development.
- Develop bold giving and engagement ideas through a collaborative process with the Advancement team and colleagues, based on research and experiences with donors.
- Understand popular planned giving vehicles and team up with the Director of Donor Engagement to maximize planned giving opportunities.
Leader
- In tandem with the Vice President of Advancement, build and update relevant individual giving fundraising budgets and projections and assist in maintaining dashboards and other reporting tools for senior staff and board members.
- Serve as a strategic thought partner to the Advancement team in developing donor strategies, campaigns, and initiatives to achieve department-wide goals.
- In coordination with institution leadership, engage and support the Board of Directors in their fundraising efforts.
- Actively contribute to our equity-informed and inclusive work environment by taking an active role in promoting practices that support diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
- Regularly share experience and expertise with team members and help mentor colleagues across the organization.
- Represent Advancement at cross-departmental meetings, performances, and internal and external events.
- Fully embrace an agile mindset and work style to take on other projects as assigned.

You'll know if the Director of Individual Giving role is the right fit for you if you have a:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of individual major gifts related experience, including face-to-face solicitations, which is critical.
- Demonstrated track record of forming donor relationships that result in annual gifts in the five and six- figure range, and experience soliciting multi-year commitments and blended gifts.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and fundraising databases, which is required; Tessitura experience is a plus.
- Ability to travel locally to meet with donors and prospects.
- Desire to grow, learn, and contribute to a team.
- Flexible schedule to accommodate evening and weekend performances and events.
Our competitive compensation package includes:
- Salary Range—$75,000 to $85,000 annually, with the exact salary depending on experience. This is a full-time, exempt position.
