Intended for classical string players with a craving for improvisation, this workshop is an opportunity for you to dip your toes into the jazz world in a comfortable, friendly setting. Violinist Nataly Merezhuk leads you in analyzing compositions by J.S. Bach, Fritz Kreisler, and Claude Debussy, tracing their influence on the music of jazz greats like Django Reinhardt, Stephane Grappelli, and Svend Asmussen. After this analysis, you will discuss practical exercises and approaches to practicing jazz, focusing on breaking down the mental blocks that are often associated with improvisation for beginners with roots in classical music.
