The global pandemic has not kept Strathmore Children’s Chorus (SCC) from forging ahead with virtual rehearsals, individual voice lessons, and performances. Art and music are at the heart of social and emotional health and well-being, and in that spirit, SCC presents songs that celebrate spring and the hope that 2021 brings.
This concert includes an a cappella rendition of “A Whole New World” from Disney’s Aladdin; a poem written during the Spanish flu pandemic a century ago, Everyone Sang, set to music by contemporary composer Kile Smith; Dr. Barbara Baker’s arrangement of the gospel hymn “The Storm Is Passing Over;” and Stephen Rew’s arrangement of the Lowell Mason hymn “How Can I Keep from Singing?”
SCC also presents music from Latin America with Ernani Aguiar’s “Salmo 150” from Brazil and Oscar Galian’s “Salseo” from Venezuela. They round out the program with Irving Berlin’s “Blue Skies” and Amy Feldon Bernon’s “Hummingbird and Butterfly.”
