Meshell Ndegeocello Black And White Portrait In A Pinstripe Suit

Three-time Grammy winner Meshell Ndegeocello has spent over 30 years creating music that blends soul, jazz, hip-hop, R&B, and rock. Her songs explore themes of love, justice, and personal growth, always grounded in her signature groove. A bassist at heart, she is one of the few female artists who writes the music, leads the band, and sings the songs. Her work has pushed boundaries and opened doors for women, queer artists, and Black musicians, challenging expectations while building a loyal following. Along the way, she has collaborated with legends such as the Rolling Stones, Madonna, and Alanis Morissette—further cementing her place as one of music’s most dynamic and influential voices.

In 2024, Ndegeocello returned to Strathmore’s Music Center with No More Water: The Gospel of James Baldwin, a powerful homage to the iconic writer and activist. Blending music and spoken word, the performance explored themes of race, identity, and social justice, underscoring her deep engagement with Baldwin's legacy.
