Blues music is an integral part of the American music canon. Pianist Mark G. Meadows and singer Rochelle Rice bring a new all-ages version of their popular blues show, which they annually perform in the Concert Hall for Montgomery County Public Schools 5th graders. Alumni of Strathmore’s Artist in Residence (AIR) program, Meadows and Rice guide audiences through the rich history of blues with its many diverse sounds, unique musicians, and powerful stories.

Meadows, an acclaimed jazz pianist, has self-produced 5 albums, performed with world-renowned artists like Cynthia Erivo and Renee Fleming, and headlined at prestigious venues such as Jazz at Lincoln Center. Winner of the 2023 Helen Hayes Award for Best Musical Direction of The Color Purple at Signature Theater, he is the associate music director and keyboardist for The Outsiders on Broadway.

Rice, an award-winning singer-songwriter, merges jazz and folk influences inspired by artists like Lizz Wright and Joni Mitchell. She collaborates with notable musicians like Sweet Honey in The Rock and Melissa Etheridge and performs at prestigious events, including the DC debut of Darrell Grant’s Step By Step: The Ruby Bridges Suite. She is the 2018 Bernard/Ebb Songwriting Award winner.

With Horace "Black Magic" Turner on harmonica, Elijah Jamal Balbed on saxophone, Jess Eliot Myhre on clarinet and vocals, Cristian Perez on guitar, Isabelle De Leon on drums, and Romeir Mendez on bass.
