Grammy- and Latin Grammy-winning band Plena Libre revisits traditional bomba and plena music from Puerto Rico, blending Afro-Caribbean and jazz styles. Led by founder and bassist Gary Nuñez, the band’s spirited percussionists and loud brass have captivated audiences for 30 years, boasting 15 albums and an appointment in 2019 as the Don Michael Randel Ensemble-in-Residence at The University of Chicago. Their electrifying performances honor Afro-Puerto Rican musical traditions while infusing them with vibrant new sounds, encouraging audiences to get up and dance.  

La banda Plena Libre, ganadora de premios Grammy y Latin Grammy, revisita la música tradicional de bomba y plena de Puerto Rico, fusionando estilos afrocaribeños y de jazz. Liderada por el fundador y bajista Gary Nuñez, los percusionistas enérgicos y los potentes metales de la banda han cautivado a las audiencias durante 30 años, con 15 álbumes y un nombramiento en 2019 como el Don Michael Randel Ensemble-in-Residence en la Universidad de Chicago. Sus electrizantes presentaciones honran las tradiciones musicales afro-puertorriqueñas mientras las infunden con vibrantes sonidos nuevos, alentando al público a levantarse y bailar.
