The JoGo Project’s high-energy holiday concert features festive classics, original tunes, and the unmistakable rhythm of go-go for a uniquely DC take on seasonal cheer. Founded by DC native Elijah Jamal Balbed during his time as a 2014 Strathmore Artist in Residence, The JoGo Project is a jazz-infused go-go band inspired by Balbed’s experience performing with the late Chuck Brown, the Godfather of Go-Go. A mainstay in the District’s music scene, the Wammie Award–winning group has released original music, collaborated with the legendary Sugar Bear, and made history as the first go-go band to perform in Russia. In 2022, Balbed expanded the lineup to include three saxophones, trumpets, and trombones—fusing the power of a traditional big band with the groove of jazz and the spirit of DC go-go.
