Violinist Tessa Lark and composer and bassist Michael Thurber first met many years ago as alumni of NPR’s From the Top. It wasn’t until 2016 that the old friends began their duo collaboration which incorporates Lark’s American music roots and Thurber’s diverse musical appetite.

“The fiddle and bass are both such versatile instruments and have played vital roles in so many different musical traditions around the world. It feels very natural to explore the full range of our musical heritage and not be bound by genre,” says Thurber, who can also be found slapping his bass on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert as a member of Jon Batiste and Stay Human.

The duo’s debut album Invention, which intersperses arrangements of J.S. Bach’s Two-Part Inventions with original compositions by Lark, Thurber, and Eddie Barbash, was released in August 2019.

TIPS FOR A GREAT VISIT

The Patio Stage is a covered, open-air venue on the Music Center’s Trawick Terrace.
Tickets are sold as pods, each with a table and 4 seats. Guests can fill all 4 of the table’s seats or enjoy additional space.
There are 31 physically distanced tables in the venue. Each table is 6 feet apart.
Guests sharing a table must arrive together for seating. Seating begins 15 minutes before show time.
Performances will last 60–70 minutes and will not include an intermission.

Strathmore is located on Rockville Pike (Route 355), half a mile north of the Capital Beltway (I-495).
Complimentary parking for Patio Stage events is in the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro garage off Tuckerman Lane.
Members at the 2 Star level and above can park in the Mansion lot on specific nights. View more detailed information here.

Our long-held, generous ticket exchange policy means you never have to worry when buying tickets to a future show. During these uncertain times, we’re making it even easier to request a refund or exchange.
Free exchanges and refunds are allowed up to 48 hours before the performance. You can exchange your tickets for a $5 fee (waived for Stars & Circles members) within the 48 hours before a performance.
If a show is cancelled or postponed, ticket refunds will always be available.
