In this workshop we will discuss storytelling and how ideology can be conveyed through song. Jo will be demonstrating how rhythm can be used to convey or mask a feeling, and how lyrics and rhythm are tied together to convey that feeling. We will also discuss the concept of music and ideology influencing each other. You are encouraged to bring examples of music that has been influential to you or your community. Let’s discuss why these songs are so impactful—is it the lyrics, melody, rhythm, or a mixture of it all?

Supported in part by Jamie & Jessica McIntyre, Bayo & Funke Oyewole, and Dr. J. Alberto Martinez & Anna Pigotti

Strathmore graciously thanks our Artist in Residence Champions for their multi-year commitment and above-and-beyond support to the AIR program.
