A word from our Music in the Mansion curator
There is nothing quite like experiencing live music as a community. The ritual of being in a shared space either abuzz with energy or contemplative calmness is unparalleled. As we navigate this uncertain time, music provides solace and encourages hope. It’s with this sense of optimism that we introduce this season’s Music in the Mansion series.
Supporting local artists has always been central to Strathmore’s values. I’m thrilled to present performances by three exciting local ensembles: Balance Campaign, Great Noise Ensemble, and Beau Soir Ensemble.
This season also shines a light on current artists reimagining music with a modern aesthetic. Pianist Dan Tepfer’s Reinventions program features Bach’s Inventions paired with Tepfer’s improvised “inventions.” Stick&Bow brings us classics rearranged for marimba and cello alongside new works.
Other season highlights include the American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME) performing Gavin Bryar’s reflective masterpiece The Sinking of the Titanic; the Grammy-winning Parker Quartet stuns with their virtuosity and passion; and Merz Trio blows us away with their fire and spirit. I am also honored to be performing alongside Matt Haimovitz in an electrifying mix of venerable classics and contemporary works.
We need music in our lives more than ever, not only to comfort, console, and heal us, but to challenge ourselves to make the world a better place. This season offers all these ideals, leaving us feeling more connected and uplifted. I look forward to seeing you in the Mansion!
