Rise Up

Sat, Sept 10–Sun, Nov 6

Inspired by the idea that blues music can have healing power for composers, musicians, and listeners, members of the National Association of Women Artists explore the transformative and celebratory emotions that occur when people emerge from difficult periods in their lives. With a wide variety of responses spanning painting, drawing, and more, Rise Up is both an examination of complex emotions and, indirectly, the therapeutic value of art.

About the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA)
In 1889, five women artists barred from the National Academy of Design and the Society of American Artists created NAWA. The oldest women’s fine art organization in the country, NAWA empowers, promotes, supports, and encourages women artists in the United States. Its work includes facilitating member exhibitions and educational programs, offering scholarships and awards, and maintaining a historical archive.
