Off the Beaten Path:
Works by the Botanical Art Society of the
National Capital Region
In the Invitational Gallery
Saturday, June 11 to Sunday, July 31, 2016
Botanical illustrations have long required a particular technique and precision to fulfill their scientific purpose, but what happens when botanical artists wander beyond the traditional?
The Botanical Art Society of the National Capital Region invited its artists to explore the possibilities and reach of botanical artwork. The resulting pieces reimagine presentation and composition, from astonishingly realistic examples of trompe l’oeil to comic-inspired interpretations, renderings on furniture, and more. Juried by Susan Frei Nathan of Susan Frei Nathan Fine Works on Paper, this exhibition showcases the breadth of horticulture, botany, and scientific illustration in glorious full bloom.
