Perspective: Eileen Martin
Fri, Sept 1–Sun, Nov 5, 2017
From a young age, Martin learned to place topics of conversation into two opposing categories: there were the “Dangerous Territories” fraught with passion and emotion, such as politics and religion. And then there were “Safe Zones,” topics such as work and weather that might be interesting, clever, and even stunning, but perhaps unemotional hideaways.
In her Perspective exhibition, Martin explores these so-called Dangerous Territories and Safe Zones in a variety of mixed media, including glass, wire, and collage. The juxtaposition of the two highlights her interest in the way we classify safe and unsafe topics, and the rapidly fading line between the two in modern discourse.
Our Perspective series features local artists in solo or two-person exhibitions.
