The Unexpected Smile:
Selected Photographs by Dario Zucchi

Sat, May 5–Sun, June 10, 2018
Curated by Eric Denker, senior lecturer and head of tours and lectures at the National Gallery of Art

Artist Dario Zucchi captures the balance between life and art. Zucchi photographs his contemplative subjects as they stand in front of gallery walls, unaware that something in their attire, stature, or attitude relates to the featured artwork. He brilliantly connects elements of color, line, shape, and light between the people and art, resulting in repeating color stories, textures, and complementary patterns that blur the distinction between subject and setting.
