Art in Motion:
The 25th Annual Strathmore Juried Exhibition
Sat, Jan 9, 2015–Sun, Feb 21, 2016
Juried by Adah Rose Bitterbaum and Harriet Lesser
“The aim of every artist is to arrest motion, which is life, by artificial means and hold it fixed so that 100 years later, when a stranger looks at it, it moves again since it is life.” - William Faulkner
Dedicated to showcasing the work of local artists, Strathmore invites Strathmore Artists to showcase their craft every year. This year’s juried exhibition will explore representations and explorations of movement, dynamics, gesture, flow, oscillation and flux. The ways artists communicate a sense of motion are endless. Is motion captured in a single frame of a photograph, leaving the viewer to fill in a ‘before’ and ‘after’? Is it depicted by many, energetic brush strokes, reflecting the motion of the artist’s technique? Or does the piece itself engage in movement as a kinetic sculpture? Come explore the possibilities of motion, there are certainly many different directions they may go.
