Timber Prospectus

Submission deadline: Thu, Aug 1, 2019, 11:59pm EST

Strathmore invites artists to submit original wood-based artwork for the upcoming exhibition Timber, taking place September 3 to October 20, 2019. Open to artists creating functional and/or conceptual work composed of at least 75% wood or wood composite, entries may include (but are not limited to) woodturning, carving, pyrography, intarsia, marquetry, sculpture, and furniture. Artists from the DMV region and beyond are encouraged to apply.

Strathmore’s Visual Arts department will review entries for the finest examples of wood-based art. Functional and conceptual artwork will be evaluated on four criteria: originality, form, execution, and finish. Artists may submit up to 8 artworks, and there is no limit to how many works from one artist’s entry may be accepted.

Any artwork previously exhibited or for sale at Strathmore is not eligible.

All artists must be 18 or older to submit work.

All works must be for sale.

Artists are responsible for delivery and removal of artworks including any shipping costs.

All works submitted must be complete and may not be exhibited if the work that arrives differs from the image submitted.

Any accepted artwork will not, by any exception, be exhibited if not exhibition-ready upon drop-off.

Strathmore will receive a 40% commission on all artwork sold. Strathmore will pay the artist 60% of the retail price of sold artwork within 30 days of the close of the exhibition. All artwork must be for sale and priced at fair market value, and prices reported in the submission should take into consideration the commission split. All titles, mediums, and prices provided in the application will remain final.

A submission fee of $32 is required for each artist submitting up to 8 works. Submission fees are non-refundable, but they are tax-deductible.

PAYMENT OPTION #1: Submission fees are collected through PayPal with any major credit or debit card at the end of the submission process. Please do not send payment via PayPal outside of this application.
