Program to include the world premieres of works by TOSHI REAGON and STANLEY THURSTON
Washington Performing Arts’ gospel choirs unite in song with a program featuring world premiere works by American folk/blues musician (and daughter of Sweet Honey in the Rock founder Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon) Toshi Reagon and by Washington Performing Arts Director of Gospel Programs Stanley Thurston, both commissioned by Washington Performing Arts.
This concert is not presented by Strathmore.
This performance is made possible through the generous support of the Van Auken Private Foundation to honor the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation and its mission to empower patients and advance awareness, research, and early detection of lung cancer. Additional support is provided by the Reginald Van Lee Rainmaker Club. Performances by the Children of the Gospel Choir are made possible through the generous support of Jacqueline Badger Mars and Mars, Incorporated. Toshi Reagon's work was commissioned by friends of Jenny Bilfield in celebration of her 50th birthday. This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
We rely on charitable gifts from individuals to sustain and expand our visual and performing arts experiences and arts education programs. Your gift will foster incredible social impact by allowing Strathmore to remain a strong and vibrant resource in your community.
