Founded in 1996, CityDance is a recognized arts and education leader and Strathmore's resident dance partner.
CityDance produces and presents professional dance at venues across the DC metropolitan area; provides free dance education programs for thousands of students each year; and trains young dancers for professional careers through the CityDance School & Conservatory based at the CityDance Center Strathmore.
CityDance School & Conservatory directed by Lorraine Spiegler, provides more than 600 students each week with high-level dance training. Lead by a world-class teaching faculty, young dancers study a diverse curriculum rooted in classical ballet and contemporary dance. Through the “Master Series” CityDance brings companies and artists from around the world to set professional repertory on students, to perform with and for students and to teach master classes. CityDance students, with their strong training and in-depth knowledge of the field, are uniquely poised for 21st century careers in professional dance.
The CityDance Ignite program, also based at Strathmore, seeks out rising choreographic stars and provides them with resources to create and present new work. Artists receive marketing, public relations and administrative support, in addition to free rehearsal space.
