Rediscovering Mercy:
An Evening with Anne Lamott

Lamott, bestselling author of Bird by Bird and Operating Instructions, uses spirituality, self-effacing humor, and ruthless honesty to tackle life’s most challenging subjects. Alcoholism, motherhood, religion, bereavement: Lamott writes about loss without trying to sugarcoat the sadness, frustration, and disappointment, telling her stories with honesty, compassion, and a pureness of voice. There’s a depth of hope and beauty in her work and fans of her seven novels, numerous autobiographical essays, and several non-fiction bestsellers say the author lifts, comforts, and inspires. Join her for a talk, followed by a lively interactive Q&A session with the audience.

  • Lamott’s stop at Strathmore coincides with the launch of her new book, Hallelujah Anyway: Rediscovering Mercy. Full of Lamott’s trademark honesty, humor, and forthrightness, Hallelujah Anyway is profound and caring, funny, and wise—a hopeful book of hands-on spirituality.
  • She’s a San Francisco native, but Lamott attended Baltimore’s Goucher College for two years.
  • Headlining the Medicine and the Muse Showcase at Stanford University, Lamott declared: “I think the greatest medicine is listening to somebody.”

This concert will run approximately 80 minutes with no intermission.
