An Evening with Pat Metheny
with Antonio Sanchez,
Linda May Han Oh & Gwilym Simcock

This jazz guitar pioneer and 20-time Grammy-winner is known worldwide for his phenomenal improvisational performances. His trademark style reinvented the way a new generation of musicians played the guitar, and Metheny continually embraces new technology to evolve his sounds, even helping to develop new kinds of guitars along the way. His mastery extends beyond the guitar, making it look easy to play nearly any instrument the first time he picks it up. With brilliant compositions embracing everything from modern jazz to rock to classical, it’s no surprise to us that Metheny is a 2018 NEA Jazz Master recipient.

  • Metheny is joined by his longtime drummer Sanchez, Malaysian-Australian bassist Oh, and British pianist Simcock.
  • At 19, Metheny became the youngest teacher ever at Berklee College of Music, where he also received an honorary doctorate more than 20 years later.
  • Frequently voted best guitarist in Downbeat magazine’s annual reader poll, Metheny was the youngest person ever to be named to Downbeat’s Hall of Fame in 2015.

This concert will run approximately 120 minutes with no intermission.
