In the slow movement of his Piano Concerto No. 2, Chopin embodied his first romantic crush about whom he wrote: “I already have my perfect one, whom I have served devotedly for a year now, of whom I dream, in whose memory the adagio of my concerto has been composed.” Together with Krzesimir Debski’s infectiously uplifting Hussars’ Polonaise and Szymanowski’s unabashedly nationalist Stabat Mater, Chopin’s musical love letter adds poignancy to the celebration of Poland’s 100th anniversary of regaining independence.
“There isn’t much about Chopin that Brian Ganz doesn’t know. His delight and wonder in this music seem to grow, apparently without bounds, as time goes on.” - The Washington Post
