Manual Cinema Workshop

This hands-on workshop takes you on a behind-the-screens journey into Manual Cinema’s unique approach to storytelling and “live cinema” techniques using shadow puppets, silhouettes, and overhead projectors. You’ll learn how the company creates their shows, from story idea to full production, and will get to stage a short sequence from a Manual Cinema show to learn their puppetry techniques and ensemble performance methods firsthand. Finally, you’ll get to work on creating an original short show using Manual Cinema puppets. The workshop culminates in a short festival of the new pieces and discussion.

This two-hour workshop is best suited for college and graduate school students; professional theater, film, or visual artists; and mature high school artists.

Each registration for this workshop includes a ticket to Manual Cinema’s No Blue Memories: The Life of Gwendolyn Brooks ($35 value).
