John Kocur & Herb and Hanson
The Uncommon PAIRings series is sponsored by Effie and John Macklin
Jazz meets bluegrass when DC’s John “The Smoker” Kocur joins Virginia natives Herb & Hanson in a bluesy, country combo show. Kocur plays saxophone; Herb & Hanson play mandolin and guitar. Two deeply American flavors of music combine in a magical musical evening.
- A star of rising international prominence, Kocur performed at the inaugural Nagano Jazz Festival in Japan, as well as the Ascona Festival in Switzerland
- A native New Yorker, Kocur’s career has flourished in Washington DC. Here, he has performed in at Kennedy Center, Blues Alley, Phillips Collection, and of course Strathmore
- Herb & Hanson's eclectic style combines the blues of the Piedmont and Delta regions, the lyrical themes of the Blue Ridge Hills, and the Ragtime bounce of America’s oldest cities
- From raved concerts in Alaska's goldmines to soothing soirees in California's grape-vines, Herb & Hanson's performances have been met with acclaim across the country
We rely on charitable gifts from individuals to sustain and expand our visual and performing arts experiences and arts education programs. Your gift will foster incredible social impact by allowing Strathmore to remain a strong and vibrant resource in your community.
