Finding the Dance in Chamber Music
Jessica Krash Master Classes
Composers, musicians of all levels, and chamber music aficionados gather for a fascinating seminar to explore the dance moves hidden in chamber music. Led by composer and scholar Jessica Krash, attendees not only learn how instrumental pieces are often created out of dance rhythms and phrases, but also enhance their playing through newfound awareness of those dance motions. In the master classes, participants form ensembles to play pieces that exhibit the dance elements, with coaching by Krash, then perform the repertoire at the culminating concert, featuring works by Grieg, Vaughan Williams, Piazzolla, Rebel, Shostakovich, and more. Also, featuring the world premiere of a new piece by Matthew Huston written just for this series, entitled "Dance Suite" for oboe, viola, cello, and piano.
Master Classes: March 3 and 10
Culminating Concert: March 17
