Christylez Bacon, hip-hop & Nistha Raj, violin
Grammy-nominated hip-hop artist Christylez Bacon is known for his beat-boxing, rhyming, and storytelling skills. This collaboration with violinist Nistha Raj offers a contemporary take on classical Hindustani music. Together, Bacon and Raj create something totally fresh. It’s an edgy, innovative amalgam that draws on their diverse heritages with the goal of bridging cultural divides. These envelope-pushing artists are no strangers to innovation. Raj has already enjoyed significant critical acclaim, described by Inside World Music as “clearly awe-inspiring…Indian fusion at its best.” Bacon’s career highlights include a 12-piece orchestra arrangement commissioned by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and being the first hip-hop artist featured at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival.
