Calligraphy Techniques for Teens & Adults

10am–12:30 pm

Explore the world of calligraphy! In this workshop, participants will:

• Receive a guided tour of the current exhibition​
• View examples of calligraphy in English, Chinese, and Arabic and the tools used to write them.
​• Select advanced techniques from the current exhibition and receive guidance on how they are done.

Pens provided, but if you have a favorite set of pens, you are welcome to bring them.

For ages 13 & up. No experience is required. Snacks provided.

About the Instructor

Maureen Squires is a working painter/calligrapher living in the Washington D.C. area who is the current Exhibition Chair for the Washington Calligraphers Guild. She teaches calligraphy at Montgomery College. Last fall she was elected as a member of the Touchstone Gallery in Washington, DC. 

Maureen has directed three international calligraphy conferences in Philadelphia, New York, and Guilford, CT.  She received her B. A. in Art, Seton Hill University; further study included two years of advanced calligraphy at Carnegie Mellon University with Arnold Bank along with many years of study with other fine calligraphers. She approaches her lettering from a painter's perspective and exhibits her work widely.
