The brilliant pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet returns to the BSO and shows off his phenomenal talent for mixing jazz with classical keyboard feats. Maurice Ravel’s love for George Gershwin’s music influenced his Concerto in G Major, a blend of French lyricism and jazz exuberance. Thibaudet pairs this with Gershwin’s vivacious “I Got Rhythm” Variations. Under Marin Alsop’s baton, the program also features Debussy’s sensuous Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and Respighi’s spectacular Roman Festivals, a feast of kaleidoscopic color and sheer volume.
