DEBUSSY “Ibéria” from Images
BERLIOZ Symphonie fantastique
Conductor Matthias Pintscher leads a program celebrating the varied voices of France. In “Ibéria,” from his multinational tone poem Images, Debussy carries us to an Andalusian village in three colorful sound pictures. The lands of Asia are depicted in Ravel’s song cycle Shéhérazade, featuring the Metropolitan Opera’s young mezzo star Kate Lindsey. And we visit a world purely of the imagination: Berlioz’s spine-tingling Symphonie fantastique, in which a disappointed lover finds himself entrapped in a terrifying Witches’ Sabbath.
