The Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra
Keith Lockhart, conductor

It’s a Jazz Age jubilee when conductor Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra take on George Gershwin, reveling in the inspirational era of speakeasies, flappers, and Rhapsody in Blue. You’ll hear fresh arrangements and rarely-heard original versions of Gershwin, plus a superb selection of Boston Pops favorites. From Nice Work if You Can Get It to surprises from ABBA and Queen, expect the unique, classic-with-a-twist repertoire that’s made The Pops “the tops” (as Gershwin would say) for more than 120 years.

  • In 1930, Arthur Fiedler was made the Pops conductor, a post he’d hold for 50 years. Under Fiedler’s direction, the Boston Pops sold more commercial recordings than any other orchestra in the world.
  • Music director and conductor Keith Lockhart may not have the nearly 50 year tenure that the legendary Arthur Fiedler did—yet!—but he has been wielding the baton for over 20 years, conducting nearly 1,800 Boston Pops concerts.
  • Current conductor Lockhart has brought pop-music acts to play with the orchestra, including blues queen Jennifer Hudson, country stars Little Big Town, and fellow Bostonians Aerosmith.
