Established in 1991, the Golden Sail Wind Band of Beijing No.166 Middle School is one of the first orchestras that was officially certified and awarded by the Beijing Municipal Board of Education. The band holds its New Year Concert in Beijing annually and has been frequently invited to performances and competitions in Japan, Australia, the United States, and many European countries. Consisting of nine 10th and 11th graders, the Beijing No. 166 Middle School Men’s Choir has won gold awards in many competitions at the municipal and national level.
The Freedom High School Concert Band is a 4-year Virginia Honor Band and has received numerous accolades and honors in its short, 12-year history. It consistently earns superior ratings at the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association Concert Band Assessment. Consisting of over 100 students in four choirs, the Freedom High School Choral Department received straight superior ratings at the State Choral Assessment. This year, the music department of the school also received the Blue Ribbon Award, the highest award given to school music programs in Virginia.
The two schools’ young artists will perform many renowned songs and music from the two countries, including “The Moon Represents My Heart,” “Take Me to the Water,” “Star Wars Saga,” “Amazing Grace,” and “America the Beautiful,” just to name a few.
