From Maryland’s capital to the Music Center at Strathmore, the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra (ASO) shares memorable symphonic music. The Mediterranean lifestyle of Spain and Italy comes to life in the music of master composers Claude Debussy and Ottorino Respighi. Music Director José-Luis Novo conducts the ASO for an afternoon concert that opens with the Catalan music champion Xavier Monsalvatge’s Sortilegis. World-renowned guitarist Manuel Barrueco brings new life to Joaquín Rodrigo’s famous guitar concerto Concierto de Aranjuez. An audience favorite, Respighi’s Pines of Rome, finishes the program.

  • Barrueco is a Grammy and Latin Grammy nominee, in addition to being a recipient of the United States Artist Fontanals Fellowship for Artistic Excellence.
  • If Pines of Rome sounds familiar, you may have heard it in Disney’s Fantasia 2000.
  • The ASO sponsors numerous education and outreach programs in community schools, reaching thousands of school children from diverse backgrounds.
