Manuel Barrueco, guitar

The Mediterranean spirit of Spain and Italy comes to life in this afternoon of memorable symphonic music. Catalan music champion Xavier Montsalvatge’s Sortilegis opens the concert, and world-renowned guitarist Barrueco brings new energy and poignancy to Joaquín Rodrigo’s famous Concierto de Aranjuez. Two audience favorites, Debussy’s colorful Ibéria suite from Images and Respighi’s Pines of Rome, finish the program.

  • Barrueco is a Grammy and Latin Grammy nominee, in addition to being a recipient of the United States Artist Fontanals Fellowship for Artistic Excellence.
  • If Pines of Rome sounds familiar, you may have heard it in Disney’s Fantasia 2000.
  • The ASO sponsors numerous education and outreach programs in community schools, reaching thousands of school children from diverse backgrounds.

Enjoy a post-show Q&A with conductor José-Luis Novo and soloist Manuel Barrueco. Free with concert ticket
