Artist in Residence Workshop:
From Africa to America: A Musical History with Uasuf Gueye
Starting in 13th century West Africa, Gueye serves as your guide through time as he explores how different cultures collided throughout history and the music that blossomed as a result. You’ll learn how African instruments like the balafon and the ngoni are ancestors of the vibraphone and banjo we know today, as well as many more fascinating origin stories of today’s musical instruments and genres such as blues, jazz, rock ’n’ roll, and bluegrass. This workshop is intended for anyone with an interest in music and history. No musical experience necessary.
Free, but registration is required.
